Moodle is the probably the most-known Learning Management System. It is an open source software offered freely under a GNU license. It has been developed for supporting educators and is based on specific pedagogical principles, structured to implement the philosophy that man acquires knowledge when interacting with the environment.Moodle is based on the social constructionist pedagogy on the personal construct theory (G.Kelly, 1955), and on social Constructionism.

Moodle was selected for ILSEAB for many reasons. The most important ones are:

  • Moodle is the most popular LMS and there is a vibrant developers' community supporting it.
  • Moodle is free and there are no maintenance costs
  • Moodle is suitable for all browsers and all kinds of students
  • Moodle 2.0.3 updated version includes many improvements regarding user interface, integrates new educational tools and better supports interoperability with other software (e.g. educational resources repositories,e-portfolios, etc).
